INFRARED VERSUS TRADITIONAL SAUNAS, WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE?

Infrared and Traditional Saunas provide many health benefits including relief of muscle tension, detoxification, clearer skin and a rejuvenating escape from the stresses of modern life. So, how do you choose the right sauna for you? We are here to help! In this blog article we guide you through what to consider and weigh up the benefits of infrared versus traditional saunas.

INFRARED VERSUS TRADITIONAL SAUNAS, THE KEY DIFFERENCE

Traditional Saunas:

These saunas, often referred to as Finnish saunas, have been in use for centuries. They typically use heated rocks or a stove to raise the air temperature inside the sauna. You pour water onto the heated rocks to create steam, which elevates humidity levels and intensifies the heat. Traditional saunas provide a dry heat experience with temperatures ranging from 150 to 195 degrees Fahrenheit (65-88 degrees Celsius).  Our Dundalk Saunas are built to the highest quality using cedar, pine and maple with sustainability in mind.

Infrared Saunas:

Infrared saunas deliver the same fabulous sauna benefits, but without heating up the surrounding air in the room around you as much, typically around 120-150 degrees Fahrenheit (48-65 degrees Celsius). They use safe infrared rays to heat up your body’s core temperature from within, without heating up the room.  This means that you start to create the detoxifying sweat at a lower temperature.  A gentle and deeply penetrating warmth that not only promotes relaxation but also rejuvenates your body and enhances your overall well-being.  Our Tylo Helo Infrared Saunas blend timeless craftsmanship, innovative design, and advanced technology,  to provide you with an exceptional sauna experience.

HOW DO I DECIDE WHAT TYPE OF SAUNA TO BUY?

Here are the top 7 questions to ask yourself:

Health Goals:

What health benefits do you want from your home sauna? If you aim to detoxify, relax, and relieve stress, both types can be beneficial. However, if you have specific health concerns, discuss this with a health care professional and our expert team here at Take Wellness.  We have helped thousands of people choose the right wellness solution, since 2016.

Space and Budget:

How much space you have in your home or garden, the shape of the space and the location is key. Traditional saunas often require more space and can be costlier due to the need for specialized construction and ventilation. Infrared saunas are more compact and easier to install, often making them a suitable choice for smaller spaces and tighter budgets.  At Take Wellness we offer a huge variety, to suit your space and budget for inside and outside.

Heat Preference:

What is your tolerance for Heat and Humidity?  If you love the benefits of a traditional sauna but hate the intense heat, humidity and steam, then an Infrared Sauna is for you. Traditional saunas offer a more intense heat, which some people find invigorating, while others may find it overwhelming. Infrared saunas provide a milder, more comfortable heat that some find easier to tolerate.

Maintenance:

Maintenance requirements can vary between sauna types. Traditional saunas may need more upkeep due to the heating elements and steam generation, while infrared saunas are generally lower maintenance.  The TAKE wellness team can talk you through all of the maintenance and running costs, so there are no surprises!

Energy Efficiency:

Infrared saunas are often more energy-efficient than traditional saunas because they heat your body directly, reducing the time and energy required to warm the entire room.

Aesthetics and Design:

We have lots of designs to choose from to suit your personal taste and to ensure that your sauna compliments its surroundings, whether inside or outside.  We display a range of saunas for you to see and test, in our showrooms.  Simply book a viewing appointment with our friendly team.

User Experience:

Do you prefer the ritualistic experience of pouring water on heated rocks in a traditional sauna, or the convenience and comfort of flicking a switch and turning a dial in an infrared sauna?

We always advise that you TAKE time to view and test saunas in a reputable showroom before you make your decision.  Both Infrared and Traditional Saunas offer incredible health benefits and an exciting gateway to creating your personal home wellness space.
